"Violent Body"
Sabian Marrero
"This piece is about storage of memory of the violence against my body starting as a five year old child in an emphatic world that reinforced it's attempt to control my behavior. This piece is a depiction of my smaller stature with a "be bigger" state of mind. The layers hold a dark and traumatized story, and trauma responses from gender conformity and queer behavioral suppression, to sexual and psychological/spiritual abuse, white supremacy and religious subjugation to societal reinforcement and normalizing abuse while still surrounded by institutions that reinforce and pretend everything around me is safe and is ok just as long as there is "forgiveness" and "god"."
